When it comes to creating an organized home, it’s not just about the products used—it’s about the decisions behind them.

As Utah Professional Organizers, we approach every project with both function and aesthetic in mind. This full home organizing project in Mapleton, Utah is a perfect example of how thoughtful design choices can completely shape the way a home looks, feels, and functions.

We first worked with this family during their move into a brand new build, unpacking and setting up spaces from the ground up. Since then, they’ve invited us back three more times to organize additional spaces. This speaks volumes about the relief that well-designed systems can bring to the whole family. This client has also referred multiple friends and neighbors to us, which is one of the greatest compliments we can receive.

With a family of seven (including five kids ranging from toddler to high school senior), every decision had to support their busy lives while still maintaining the light, airy aesthetic they love.

Here’s a look behind the key design decisions that made this home both beautiful and livable, with links throughout if you’d like to try these products for yourself.

Design Decision #1: Keep the Visual Palette Light + Cohesive

Because the home itself felt bright and airy, we were intentional about selecting products that wouldn’t visually weigh the spaces down.

In the pantry, we chose acacia lid jars and airtight containers to create a clean, uniform look while still adding a touch of warmth. Hyacinth baskets and tosca baskets layered in natural texture without overwhelming the space, while deep acrylic bins kept everything feeling open and easy to navigate.

We carried that same philosophy into other areas of the home by using glass knob jars in the laundry room, multi-purpose bins in storage spaces, and neutral-toned baskets throughout.

Even the garage was designed to feel light and organized, proving that functional spaces don’t have to feel heavy or cluttered.

Design Decision #2: Prioritize Visibility + Accessibility

One of the biggest factors in maintaining an organized home, especially with kids, is making everything easy to see and access.

In the kitchen and pantry, we used turntables with sides to fully utilize hard-to-reach corners and keep frequently used items within reach. Can risers ensured nothing gets lost in the back, while matching spice jars created both function and visual consistency.

In bathrooms and under-sink areas, short acrylic bins and turntables made it easy to group categories without overcrowding the space.

These choices may seem simple, but they’re what make the difference between a system that looks good and one that actually works long-term.

Design Decision #3: Use Consistency to Simplify for Kids

With five kids in the home, simplicity was key.

In the basement toy closet, we used black XL y-weave bins matching bins to corral bulkier items into categories that are easy for kids to maintain. In the playroom, clear multi-purpose bins allow younger kids to quickly see what’s inside.

The goal wasn’t perfection, but to create systems that every age could realistically use and reset.

That same mindset carried into the movie and game room, which the older kids specifically wanted as a hangout space for friends. We designed the closet with white XL y-weave bins, hyacinth bins, and acacia lid jars to hold snacks, treats, and even cleaning supplies. This makes it easy to both enjoy the space and clean up afterward.

Design Decision #4: Elevate Everyday Routines

We believe everyday spaces should feel just as elevated as the interior design throughout the home.

In the primary closet, we created a boutique-style feel using cream velvet hangers on her side and black velvet hangers on his. This not only looks polished but also creates visual structure and consistency.

Acrylic drawer dividers keep smaller folded items in place, while kiva bins provide clean, concealed storage on shelves for accessories.

In the laundry room, we used a dedicated dryer sheet holder, and a handful of pant hangers to streamline the process from washing to putting clothes away.

These small upgrades make daily routines feel more efficient and enjoyable.

Design Decision #5: Give Every Space a Clear Purpose

One of the most important parts of this project was ensuring that each space truly supported how the family lives.

From a functional home office with memory boxes and drawer organizers, to a garage equipped with command hooks for bike helmets and a metal ball basket for sports gear, every area was designed with intention.

Nothing was left as an afterthought, and that’s what allows the entire home to function seamlessly together.

This home is a perfect example of what happens when thoughtful design meets real-life functionality.
